Title:             Meditation for Beginners Workshop
Duration:     90 minutes
Format:        Group workshop
Group Size:  6 to 20 participants

Learning Objectives

By the end of the session, participants will know how to:

  1. Describe what meditation is in basic terms
  2. Understand the origin of meditation as a spiritual practice.
  3. Identify at least 3 common benefits of a regular meditation practice.
  4. Practice 3 basic meditation techniques:
    • Breath awareness
    • Body scan
    • Loving-kindness (or heart-centered) meditation
  5. Use simple strategies to handle common challenges (restlessness, racing thoughts, sleepiness).
  6. Create a realistic personal plan to continue meditating at home.

Required Materials

  • Comfortable chairs or cushions, mats/blankets if available
